On genres, I’d say Western, Nashville, and Bakersfield are all “sounds” of country. Americana is a term used to encompass country, indie country (e.g. Sierra Ferrell), and closely related genres. Many Americana artists are not American, but are heavily influenced by country music e.g. First Aid Kit’s “Emmylou” or Jade Bird’s “Something American”.
